New Maruti Suzuki Dzire - Esteem Part Two!

Get ready to witness a price war in the diesel sedan market of India. Maruti Suzuki India Ltd, one of the leading passenger car makers in the country, has announced plans of launching Dzire, one of the cheapest diesel sedans, in the Indian automobile market. The car is expected to replace Esteem and is slated to be launched somewhere in March 2008. It is being estimated that the diesel sedan will have a price tag of around Rs 5.2 to 5.4 lakh onwards, for the entry-level diesel model.

Maruti will also launch a petrol variant of Dzire, which is expected to be priced somewhere below Rs 5-lakh price band. As per sources, the new sedan has been loosely based on Swift, though it is said to have an added boot volume of around 400 liters. Maruti plans to project Dzire as a luxury car within the means of a middle car person too. The car will come equipped with 1.3 liter combination of diesel and petrol engines, with three trims each.

The price at which Dzire is expected to be launched will make it come in direct competition with Tata Indigo Dicor, which comes at a price of around Rs 5,28,537 (ex-showroom Delhi). With Dzire, Maruti is aiming to replicate the success it received in case of SX4. The company will mainly concentrate on providing customers a highly competitive price. This, in turn, will lead to high volumes and balance the lower margins on its sale.
